A simple eye test could detect Alzheimer’s disease and other disorders before symptoms appear, say British scientists.
The dying cells appear as green dots in the retina of ration. Its technique uses fluorescent markers that attach to the dying cells. They are a first indication of cell death in the brain and can be seen in the retina.
The investigation is being conducted in mice but is planning human clinical trials, say researchers from the University of London.
The aim, they say, is that this work will lead to a test available in ophthalmology clinics to spot the disease among the general public.
The research, published in the journal Cell Death and Disease (Cell Death and Disease), could help scientists overcome the difficulties currently facing to investigate what is happening inside the brain of Alzheimer’s sufferers.
