Recommendations to Relieve Headache or Migraine



Headache or MigraineThe headache can make you feel that you have a cow’s head, but like any pain, is the body’s way of saying that something is not right. The headache is a manifestation of a reversible condition of the nervous system caused by a chemical alteration of brain energy. This alteration, in most cases is functional, not organic.

Serotonin is a substance found in the whole head, and is closely related to almost all headaches, and regulates vital functions such as sleep cycles, hunger, mood and pain transmission.

The headache is the body’s response to stress and emotional pressure. A typical headache of tension occurs on both sides of the head and may worsen because of noise or a congested environment. The pain may be beating but is generally feels constant and above the eyes or more generally on the head. Pressure can also be felt behind the eye muscles and neck feels tight.

The following recommendations can help relieve a headache or migraine:

  • Food allergies or intolerances are believed to be a major cause of migraines. Migraine meaning “half head”, so that means a severe headache that usually occurs only in half of the head and face. Common foods that most people develop allergies are eggs, milk products, nuts, wheat, chocolate and citrus fruits such as oranges. Try to avoid eating these foods if given to an allergic reaction, which can also cause a headache or migraine that do not feel like a cow’s head.
  • Migraines can also be caused by a biochemical reaction to tyramine, found in old cheeses, chocolates, ripe bananas, sour cream, fermented beans, processed meats and alcoholic beverages.
  • When the body can not produce histamine, a hormone to control infections, this can cause a migraine. Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) can help the body to process histamine. A dose of 50 milligrams per day is recommended.
  • For chronic migraine, take 400 mg of vitamin B2 (riboflavin). It has been shown to be effective in reducing the frequency and severity of migraine attacks.
  • Those most susceptible to migraines are deficient in magnesium. A dose of 400 milligrams per day is recommended that you do not feel like a cow’s head.
  • The supplement 5-HTP increases serotonin, a neurotransmitter that acts as a mild sedative and has a calming effect. A dose of 100 milligrams taken 3 times per day (without food) is recommended. Check with your doctor if you take antidepressants.
  • Ginger also relieves pain because it relaxes blood vessels in the head and reduces nausea. For small headache, drink one to two cups of ginger tea (or tea bag made from fresh ginger root) every hour. Or take 500 to 1,000 milligrams of ginger powder every three to four hours a day, fasting.
  • Peppermint oil is also effective for relieving headache. Rub the oil into the affected area every 15 to 30 minutes until the pain goes away. Avoid eye area.
