The effects of nausea, vomiting and stomach upset can be caused by Clostridium dificile colitis, an inflammation of the large intestine or colon.

In rare cases, can cause death. Women may develop vaginal infections. In rare cases, antibiotics can give cause a dangerous allergic reaction that requires emergency care.

How should you take antibiotics and what other recommendations do you have?

It is important that the patient knows that the antibiotic kills bacteria but does not kill viruses. Ask your doctor about the side effects of prescribed antibiotics. Tell your doctor about all medications being taken (including contraceptives in women), special diets, allergies, pregnancy and any health problems.

Always take antibiotics as recommended by your doctor. Although after a few days, you feel better, always finish the recommended dose. Call your doctor if the end of the dose, the symptoms do not improve or appear uncomfortable side effects (ask your doctor how you can overcome these effects.)

Do not use antibiotics that have been recommended for another infection or another person. Take this precaution especially with children. Take the dose recommended by your doctor complete. Discard any old anti-biotic or not taken in full.

Finally, the physician who must decide when, how, how much and how to take antibiotics. Always consult your doctor.

What are antibiotics and when to use?
They are basically medicines that kill bacteria, fungi and some parasites. There are many types of antibiotics. Everyone works differently. At one end, is your doctor who will choose what works best for infection.

It is important to note that antibiotics do not work on viral diseases such as influenza (flu), bronchitis, sore throats not associated with streptococcus or nasal secretions. These illnesses usually go away by themselves. Your doctor will give recommendations to make you feel better sooner.

If a person takes antibiotics when not needed, they can not work or do not take effect when necessary. The use of antibiotics when not needed, it will help you feel better or cure it, let alone protect others from infection.

In this case, the misuse of them can cause other effects such as nausea, diarrhea and stomach cramps.
Every time a person takes antibiotics, the more likely that the medicine does not kill some bacteria. Over time, these bacteria change (mutate) and are harder to kill the same antibiotic used to work, and it does not. This creates a resistance to bacteria that can infect our family members, neighbors and the general environment. The community then faces the risk of infection is more difficult and expensive to kill.

Inappropriate prescribing and misuse of antibiotics, the extension of plans beyond what is necessary, the application of non-recommended doses, the irregularity in taking drugs, are the main factors leading to today resistance rate is so high.

Some medicines for pain relief sold without a prescription can be addictive in just three days, says a new report.

Regulatory Agency Medicines and Healthcare in the UK (MHRA), which advises the British government, published new rules for drugs that contain codeine and dehidrocodeina.

The goal, he says, is to minimize the risk of overuse and addiction.

The packages of these drugs must now carry stronger warnings about the risk of dependency.

In the United Kingdom are sold around 27 million packs of analgesics containing codeine every year.

According to the MHRA figures show that about 30,000 people in this country has become addicted to these drugs, although this number, he says, “could be just the tip of the iceberg”.

Codeine is an opioid used to relieve moderate to severe pain in conditions such as migraine, toothache, menstrual or back.

And often sold in combination with other analgesics safer as paracetamol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen.

The MHRA states that these drugs are now sold with prominent warnings about the risk of addiction in both the packaging and the booklet inside.

And you should warn consumers not to take the drug for more than three days.

Packages also include a warning that the drug should only be used when not achieved pain relief with other analgesics such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen.

Also be removed from packaging suggestions using medicines to relieve colds, flu, cough and sore throat, and references to disorders with mild pain.

Large packages of codeine effervescent now be sold only by prescription.
Clear information

According to Dr June Raine, Director of Vigilance and Risk Management of the MHRA, said that taken in the right way and for the right purpose, drugs and dehidrocodeina codeine, are effective and safe acetate.

“But he adds, these products can be addictive and we are taking steps to avoid this risk.”

The official added that it was important to ensure that people have clear information about how drugs should be used and how you can minimize the risk of addiction.

“Whoever is concerned about these drugs should talk with their pharmacist or doctor.

For its part, the Association of Medicinal Trademark of Great Britain (Pagba) which represents manufacturers of nonprescription drugs, expressed support for the new measures.

“The companies of the association and voluntarily took steps to restrict the size of packets to 32 tablets,” says Sheila Kelly, executive director of Pagba.

“And since 2005 have added warnings to packets.

“The new more prominent warning labels about the risk of addiction, which will be placed in front of the pack, and to limit the signs to moderate pain unresponsive to acetaminophen, ibuprofen or aspirin, will be introduced as soon as possible,” says the official.

He adds that “the vast majority of people used properly codeine-containing drugs and therefore should not worry about the possibility to be damaging their health.”

The increase in antidepressant therapy based supplements along with omega-3 fatty acid levels does not improve depression in patients with coronary disease, according to a study by the University of Washington published today in JAMA.

Contrary to what is apparent from published studies, a new work developed by a team at Washington University in St. Louis, indicates that the therapy increased from antidepressants (sertraline) with supplements of omega-3 fatty acids levels does not improve depression in patients with coronary heart disease.

The study, led by Robert M. Carney, of that university, and published today in The Journal of the American Medical Association, included 122 patients who received 50 milligrams daily of sertraline and who were randomized to receive 2 grams daily of omega-3 acid in the as ethyl esters or placebo capsules for ten weeks. The authors have shown no differences in the improvement according to the Beck Depression Questionnaire I and II among the different groups.

During the ten weeks they were under observation, and placebo groups did not differ omega-3 in terms of anxiety or depression. There were no significant differences in remission rates or response to therapy between the two groups.

Although the anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) diclofenac is commonly used to treat acute pain in children is not approved for that purpose in all age groups. However, a new review suggests that perhaps should be authorized.

The team of Dr Imogen Savage, University of London, searched the literature on studies that examined the diclofenac as a treatment for acute pain in children aged 18 or less.

The authors found seven studies that observed the efficacy of analgesic and 79 that focused on safety.

In the efficacy analysis, the focus was usually on postoperative pain. In this regard, the use of diclofenac reduced by 40 percent the need to use painkillers “rescue”, compared with the use of placebo or no treatment.

As for security, Savage and his colleagues found that children treated with diclofenac were 40 percent less likely to suffer nausea or vomiting, compared with children who received other drugs.

Less than 0.24 percent of children experienced serious side effects after taking diclofenac and none had episodes of bleeding that required surgery.

Savage told Reuters Health that diclofenac is “a useful drug in children, and one that is already used quite widely in the UK, although formulas probably need more ‘child-friendly’.”

The results of the review appear in the Cochrane Library, a publication of the Cochrane Collaboration, an international organization that evaluates medical research.
