Definition
Carbon monoxide is a toxic gas produced when carbon fuels (gasoline, coal and oil) are burned incompletely. As these fuels are used to operate machinery, cars and heat homes, carbon monoxide released during combustion is a constant danger. Moreover, this gas is odorless and the first effects of inhalation are subtle, which can cause serious damage before the victim realizes.

The carbon monoxide poisoning robs your body of oxygen, quickly creating a situation that threatens life. The toxic effects of this substance vary depending on the duration of exposure, concentration of gas inhaled and physical condition of the victim.

Causes

The carbon monoxide poisoning occurs when:
* Leave the car running in an enclosed space such as a parking
* There is fire in a room with little ventilation
* There is a breakdown in domestic heating systems
* Fumes are inhaled chemicals to remove paint. These chemicals containing methylene chloride, which the body converts to carbon monoxide
